Penam Periodontics - Evidence based Personalized Periodontics

Determining the Patient Recall Frequency.

There have been many debates as to the most appropriate recall frequency for periodontal patients. Some clinicians have their patients return every 3 months whilst others may only see them annually. Clearly there are a number of factors that determine the frequency, such as oral hygiene, smoking, diabetes, genetics and systemic disease. The Dental Faculty at the University of Bern in Switzerland conducted a number of studies to try to determine the recall frequency of patients. They have developed an assessment tool which is available on their website.

The Periodontal Risk Assessment.

This assessment uses a number of measures and predicts the recall frequency from the collected information.
